IF YOUR DAUGHTER IS WAITLISTED:
- "When will I hear if there are spots open on the waiting list?" Should an opening be available, we will contact you directly via the email address and phone number you used on your application. This could happen any time between May-August. We do not have a specific "waitlist day," and we fill as spots as they become available.
- "What is my waitlist number?" LAUSD does not release waitlist numbers and GALA follows LAUSD policy.
- "How many students applied to GALA?" GALA had over 1500 applications school-wide 6th-12th grade and we will likely admit 100-120 students 6th-12th grade.
- "How are students chosen?" LAUSD conducts a random lottery for GALA for students who qualify for an SAS School for Advanced Studies school.
- "What is the LAUSD sibling policy?" LAUSD Sibling Policy: "Sibling priority only applies to currently enrolled siblings of students that will attend the same program next school year. To receive sibling priority, applicant(s) need to list all of the siblings on the application. Siblings must live at the same address. Make sure the address is correct in the system before the application deadline." There is a sibling priority but it is not guaranteed based on the number of open spots available. For SAS schools, siblings must live within the LAUSD boundaries.
- "If my student is not admitted for the 2026-2027 school year, will I stay on the waitlist for 2027-2028?" No, LAUSD does not roll over wait lists from year to year. You will need to apply for each new grade level.
- "If I accept at another school, will I stay on the GALA waitlist?" Please contact the LAUSD CHOICES or the SAS office for questions on choosing a school. Contact phone numbers for LAUSD CHOICES or SAS are at https://apply.lausd.net/Contact.

COLLEGE PREP: GALA is a 6th through 12th grade public school within LAUSD and provides a highly rigorous college preparatory education in an all-girls environment. Applicants should be ready and willing to accept the demands of a challenging academic course load.
STEM: Our focus is science, technology, engineering and mathematics with particular emphasis on computer technology. We also believe the humanities and arts are vital to a well-rounded education. We do have arts classes but we are NOT and "art" school and our art classes are not guaranteed for students.
ALL GIRLS: GALA is an environment that is exclusively devoted to the education of young women. Our all-girls environment fosters collaboration between the school community, girls and their families. GALA’s core values of excellence, leadership, and wellness are instilled throughout every facet of the school. GALA is also a "uniform" school and uniforms are worn daily. GALA's only free-dress day is Halloween.
LAUSD: GALA is an LAUSD Single Gender School for Advanced Studies (SAS) School. If your student applies for an SAS school and qualifies, acceptances are from an LAUSD lottery. GALA is not a charter and not a Magnet. As a non-magnet school, GALA does not use "points" for entry. Whether you reside within the LAUSD boundaries or outside of LAUSD, you are welcome to apply to GALA. If you live within the LAUSD boundaries, even if you don't attend an LAUSD school, you do not need a permit. If you live outside of the LAUSD boundaries, if admitted, you will need a permit. You do NOT need to obtain a permit until you are accepted and plan to enroll at GALA. You contact your current school system first to apply for a permit. Then you contact the LAUSD permit office. This is the responsibility of the parent to secure. You do not need a permit in order to submit an LAUSD application.
WHAT GRADES DO YOU ACCEPT?
6th - 12th grades.
HOW DO I SUBMIT?
LAUSD Choices applications are open from the beginning of October 2026 - mid-November 2026. Submissions are via an LAUSD lottery and they are not first-come-first-served. For the 2026-2027 school year, LAUSD is moving GALA into the SAS (School for Advanced Studies) single-gender academy section. Click HERE for more information and information on verifying eligibility for an SAS school.
WHEN WILL I FIND OUT?
See important dates below. LAUSD typically releases their lottery results in the second week of March. Please check our LAUSD application portal.
WHAT IF I AM WAIT LISTED?
After the first round registration deadline passes (first week of May) we will know how many spots are not claimed. At that time, we will fill any open spots from the waiting list. We do not fill spots on one "wait list" day, we fill as spots become available. If you are on the GALA wait list and you accept at another LAUSD school in a different category, you will remain on the waitlist at GALA.
WILL APPLYING TO ECHOICES MAGNET SCHOOLS AFFECT APPLYING TO GALA?
No, you can apply to magnet schools AND you can apply to GALA on the LAUSD CHOICES application. GALA is not a magnet school and we do not use "points." You can also apply to other SAS schools and apply to GALA.
